Ingredients:
For Cooking the Dal:
- 500g Split Chickpeas (washed and soaked for 2 hours)
- 1 Large Onion
- 2 Large Tomatoes
- 1 1/2 tbsp Ginger & Garlic Paste
- 1 1/2 tsp Knorr Chicken Powder (heaped)
- 1 1/2 tsp Salt
- 2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds (dry-roasted and crushed)
- 1 tbsp Coriander Powder
- 1 tsp Cumin Powder
- 1 tsp Turmeric
- 6 cups Water (or as needed to cook the dal)
For Tempering the Dal:
- 4 Green Chillies (finely chopped)
- 6 Garlic Cloves (sliced)
- 2 tbsp Dry Fenugreek Leaves
- 1 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1 tsp Kashmiri Chilli Powder
- 1 cup Oil
- 1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
- Handful of Fresh Coriander

Instructions:
1. Prepare Tomato and Onion Paste:
- In a blender, combine the onion, tomatoes, and 1/2 cup of water. Blend until you have a smooth paste.
2. Cooking the Dal:
- In a pressure cooker, add the soaked split chickpeas, the tomato and onion paste, ginger & garlic paste, Knorr Chicken Powder, salt, red chilli powder, crushed cumin seeds, coriander powder, cumin powder, and turmeric. Mix well.
- Add 6 cups of water (or as needed to cover the dal). Seal the pressure cooker, place the weight on, and cook over high flame. Once the weight starts to move, cook for 25 minutes.
3. Finish the Dal:
- After cooking, add the garam masala powder to the dal, and mix well. Set aside.
4. Tempering the Dal:
- In a frying pan, heat oil over high flame. Add cumin seeds and sliced garlic. Fry until the garlic turns golden.
5. Add Aromatic Spices:
- Now, add the finely chopped green chillies, Kashmiri chilli powder, dry fenugreek leaves, and fresh coriander. Stir-fry for a few seconds.
6. Combine the Tempering with Dal:
- Transfer the tempered spice mixture to the cooked dal. Stir well to combine all the flavours.
7. Serve and Enjoy:
