KALONJI CHANA DAL

Ingredients

1: chana dal 500g (soaked for 7 to 8 hours and then boiled in water till tender, but should not lose its shape)

2: tomatoes 3 large (sliced)

3: onions 2 medium (finely sliced)

4: salt 1 tsp (heaped)

5: red chilli powder 1 tsp (heaped)

6: turmeric 1/2 tsp

7: black peppercorn 8

8: cloves 8

9: cinnamon stick 1

10: black-caraway 2 tsp (kalonji)

11: cumin seeds 2 tsp

12: garam masala powder 1 tsp

13: Bullet green chilli 3 (sliced)

14: ginger & garlic paste 1 tbsp

15: mint leaves 15

16: coriander leaves a handful

17: oil 3/4 cup

  1. KALONJI CHANA DAL

    1: heat oil add cinnamon stick, cloves, black peppercorn, cumin seeds, kalonji, onions, ginger & garlic paste and fry till golden, on high flame.

    2: then add tomatoes, salt, red chili powder, turmeric, water 1/3 cup, and cook on high flame till the oil comes on the surface.

    3: now add the boiled dal, water 1 & 1/2 cups mix, and cover, and simmer on low flame till the oil comes to the surface.

    4: add mint, green chili, garam masala powder, coriander leaves, mix well.

    5: Served hot with roti.
